During the autumn theatre programme, Imelda worked with four theatre practitioners:
Vanessa Earl, Stage Presence as an Actor (4 week taster sessions),
Miquel Barceló Physical theatre and performance
Roberta Nolan Musical Theatre and Dance (4 week taster sessions)
Daniel Guinnane: Outreach Theatre Workshops
Each practitioner brought their own sense of fun and inspiration to their individually tailored workshop sessions.
For the Community Outreach workshop featured we were privileged to work with people supported and staff at Skylark Day Centre in Athenry.
The Little Shop - March 2023
From the autumn of 2022 to the spring of 2023, The That's Life theatre programme created a pioneering show entitled 'The Little Shop'. Co-directed and devised by Miquel Barcelo, in collaboration with Imelda Reynolds, and performed without prompting by actors with intellectual disability (ID), the work used mask, physical theatre and dynamic visual techniques, accompanied by a romantic musical underscore, to convey beautiful and poetical stories.
The creative process was designed to be inclusive and adapted specifically for the adult performers with ID. In addition, the show was devised using visual imaginary that was accessible for audiences with communication and cognitive challenges.
The work was presented in three performances over two days in March 2023 at Nuns Island theatre, Galway. Audiences were transfixed by the wonderful talent that has been nurtured by That's Life, and given an opportunity to change their perceptions about how disability and performance can be portrayed in society at large.
The Little Shop
